Three Tools You Don’t Need To Buy Anymore

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t’s good to have DIY equipment at home so that they are at hand when needed. Like many expensive purchases, we do a bit of research before buying them, store them carefully and do our best to maintain our DIY equipment. You may however, want to reconsider being a proud owner of a few pieces of equipment listed below when it is cheaper, easier, and safer to hire them instead.

Impact Drills

Drilling successfully through concrete & masonry products such as house slabs, brick & tile takes requires a serious drill – and the right drill bits.

Often when people purchase an impact drill it is not the single function of the drill but one of several functions such as drilling and screwing.  These type of drills may be suitable for small depths like ceramic tiles but will not cope with the likes of solid concrete.  Also using a poor quality masonry drill bit will only increase the time taken to drill each hole and increase the chance of inaccuracy or damage.

We stock 10mm and 18mm impact drills which are commonly referred to as SDS plus & SDS max drills. These are drills dedicated to impact drilling and have a high wattage which allows them to drive drill bits into concrete and masonry materials with ease. They also have variable speed triggers which allow for careful and precise drilling when starting a hole.

To compliment the impact drills we also have a wide range of quality tungsten tip drill bits that will make it as easy as possible to get through the walls or building materials you are working with. We also have core drills with core drill bits ranging up to151mm for the really big holes!

Demolition Saws

When you need to cut through concrete don’t bother using a hand grinder.  It can be dangerous, slow and ever so dusty.

You can finish your project in a fraction of the time if you use the right equipment. Hand held grinders take far more time and energy than a demolition saw which is often called a concrete saw. Demolition saws use a diamond encrusted blade for efficient and neat cutting.  They also have a water feed which culls the dust while cooling the blade and for long cuts, they can be mounted onto a trolley which saves you hunching over and the physical strain of holding the weight of the saw.

Based on the amount of time that you’ll need to use this powerful machine, purchasing one isn’t always a good option. Hiring a demolition saw or concrete saw can save you time and money that you can use on the rest of your project.

Chainsaws

Petrol chainsaws are the most common type of chainsaw and for anyone who has used one, you’ll know it is a great time saver when it comes to cutting wood and other materials quickly and accurately. Similarly, a petrol pole saw gives you the added safety of keeping your feet on the ground – rather than climbing up a ladder while using power tools. Electric chainsaws are a more environmentally friendly alternative to petrol saws and are also very common.

The biggest problem with owning a chainsaw is the maintenance – it can take time, money, and expertise to maintain a chainsaw over time. And if you don’t, you can come into some serious safety hazards for you and the people you work with. As we said, chainsaws are a great time saver … when they are working properly.

If you hire an electric or petrol chain saw or pole saw, you don’t have to worry about the difficult maintenance, it’s ready to go when you need it. Plus, hiring it for your day project is far more economical than buying a new one of the same kind.
