Achieving a Professional Paint Job at Home

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hile employing a professional painter for a job at your home should ensure a professional finish, it is possible to achieve a finish that looks like you’ve paid a professional big dollars for. It is often the case, it comes back to using the right techniques in combination with the right tools and equipment for the job.  We’ve put together some of the most essential materials and tools that you will need for painting your home like a professional.

Preparation

Any good painting and decorating professional will tell that you that the preparation of the area is the most important part of the process. Before painting the walls in your home, it is important to first strip them of any existing wallpaper, sand, and clean them with sugar soap to get the best results. In order to reach the high-up places in your home so that every part of the wall and ceiling is prepared consistently, you may need this 1.45m Platform Step Ladder or if you’re painting outside consider a set of Aluminium Painters’ Trestles and Planks.   A full trestle safety system can help provide a safe work platform whilst working at heights.  For the ultimate outdoor painting platform a Nifty Lift Cherry Picker is a great choice.

Priming

Before you go ahead and slap your favourite colours onto your walls and ceilings, it’s important that the area is fully primed. Most painting and decorating professionals will tell you that painting a wall without priming it beforehand is a waste of time. That said, be sure to use a high-quality primer as this will help to bring out the true colour of the paint and drastically improve your finish once you’re done.

Painting

So long as you have the right brushes and rollers, actually painting your home is the easiest part once all of the preparation has taken place. When painting some of the larger areas in your home such living area walls and ceilings an Airless Spray unit could be very useful especially for new homes or rooms without furniture.  Airless Spray units are also great for outdoor painting such as timber fences or masonry walls.

Choose High Quality

One of the key things to remember when attempting to achieve a professional finish at home with your paint job is that high quality equipment, tools and paints are well worth considering. Today’s premium paints are designed to flow on easily, so with the right primer and high quality brushes and rollers, painting should be a breeze … well almost!
