Pool Fencing Regulations

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]onstructing a swimming pool at your home is a very exciting experience. Not only will a well-constructed, professionally-designed pool improve the value of your home, it will also provide months of endless fun for yourself and your family. But, in order to get the most from your new pool it is important to take the issue of safety very seriously. We’ve listed the main things that you need to know about pool fencing regulations.

Swimming Pool Barriers

In order to ensure that your swimming pool complies with government regulations, you must have a continuous barrier around the perimeter of the pool that is strong enough to withstand the impact of a falling person in order to prevent them from going into the pool. Along with this, it’s also vital to ensure that you construct a barrier which prevents unsupervised access of children to the pool.

When to Erect the Barriers

The rules regarding swimming pool safety barriers apply to new pools, pools under construction and retrospectively to existing pools. So, if you are planning to incorporate a swimming pool in your yard, a pool safety barrier should be one of your top priorities. In order to make things more convenient for yourself and any tradespeople working on the site, you can hire temporary pool fencing from Centenary Hire.  Legally this can be used instead of a permanent fixture for a maximum period of three months to allow for the construction of your pool.

Does Your Pool Comply?

Once you have constructed your pool, it’s time to start putting the permanent safety barriers up. In order to ensure that your barrier complies with regulations, here are some of the basic requirements. The barrier must be a minimum height of 1200mm from the ground to the top of the barrier.  The gap between the ground and the bottom of the barrier cannot be greater than 100mm. You must also ensure that any climbable objects, that could be used to access the pool are further than 900mm from the outside of the barrier. Be aware that your pool gates should not open directly towards the pool area, and they must be both self-closing and latching from all positions. When you hire temporary pool fencing from Centenary Hire, you are provided with a Swimming Pool Barrier installation guide which also contains links to relevant regualtions so that you can further investigate yourself.

Signage

Finally, in both public and private pools it is essential to display compliant CPR signage either attached to the pool barrier, or within the pool surrounds. Furthermore, it’s not essential but it is a good idea to also include other signs which help improve safety such as an indication of the depth of your pool.

It’s important to ensure that your swimming pool complies with safety regulations! Get temporary safety items for your pool from our great range.
